the freckled ducks are quite common at that site in small numbers, but the shovellers usually only number 2 or 4 across the whole site for some the year. It was really unusual to see that many shovellers. normally I would say they are not together and usually no ducks are on that particular pond but the whole site was flooded so circumstances were different perhaps to the norm..

I had a lovely pied one as a pet -inner urban Melbourne. She was left anonymously in a box in my front yard. She followed me about like a dog - very grumpy if I stood on her toes as she shadowed me. Survived one fox visit, not a second many years later.
