Kangaroo Apple. A native nightshade, fruit edible when ripe, toxic when unripened. Food plant of indigenous Australians and NZers I believe.
I can't tell which species this is. Either S. laciniatum or S. aviculare

Thanks Claire. It wasn't very tall and right at the bottom of a group of gum trees. Glad I didn't try the berries!

Corolla lobes notched – shown here : Solanum laciniatum – secondarily tends to look like these foliage features' gestalt .
