I have racked my brains over this immautre bird and I'm still not sure. Purple Swamphen? It was boldly standing in the middle of this water - cleaning - not eating. There was a coot nearby, Black Swans, and Dusky Moorhen with its babies but none were paying attention to this bird. It was just waiting (to be eaten!).

I think you're right with the Purple Swamphen Kylie. I've been putting off this one because its so odd. Pity field guides don't have illustrations of the awkward teenage years of birds.
