Significant sighting

MichaelMulvaney noted:

2 Dec 2020

First record of this potentially significant weed naturalising in the Albury-Wodonga area - would be good to control while numbers of weedy plants appear low

User's notes

May have been planted in a revegetation planting

Looks like my Liriope in my garden.

Liriope is a popular garden planting, native to Asia and known to be invasive in North America and Europe, particularly in shaded riparian areas. It is increasingly being recognised as a weed of concern in the Sydney area where it is starting to become widespread. Would be good for plant(s) at this location to be dug up and bagged.

There was two plants that I spotted at Willow creek with flowers. Ironically I was weeding there Monday when I recorded it. Friends of Willow Park might be interested to manage it if it's a potentially significant weed.

good one Micheal - would be interesting if Wodonga Council know of this

Thanks Chris - would be great if Friends of Willow Park could remove the plants

I'll see if I can pass the message on to them, I'm not sure if they have any members on naturemapr as of yet.

Well done team! I'll let Wodonga Council know about this one :)

I've had it for almost 20years in my garden (the variegated leaf one with the purple flower) and its barely grown much at all. So maybe it doesn't take off as much here. (or it just hates my garden!)

I gather it is a weed of moist and shady areas - so perhaps you have it in the wrong spot (fortunately)
