There were a couple of very young birds. All were close to the edge of the water but in weedy grass.

Thanks Chris. I usually have trouble with focus because the camera can't decide what to focus on - they have so many different patterns on them. The 400mm lens helps - i don't have to be too close and they tend to stand better if they don't think I'm chasing them!
