Hi Paul - nice pic... I'm not so familiar with the difference between the introduced Typha latifolia and the native one Typha orientalis - best tip I know is that T. latifolia dies back over winter .. have you got any tips ?
The make up of the individual flowers within a spike helps with ID. However without this detail the exotic Typha latifolia has dark brown female spikes while the native Typha species are a lighter cinnamon brown as in this photo. The width of the leaves and width of flower spike is a good way of telling the two natives apart but it is difficult to tell from the photo
