User's notes

This ant was so small I couldn't see it IRL. It appears to have banding on it. This tree was very unwell 75% dead, and the new leaves it had had different lurps and eggs on them.

Based on the size I think this may be a species of Colobopsis (Arboreal Ant) but it may also be a type of Meat Ant (Iridomyrmex mayri). Did you notice any other similar looking ants nearby? Ants have major and minor workers with different appearances or any other behaviour traits. The Antwiki is a great resource
https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Colobopsis.

I think the blobs on the leaf are actually leaf galls.

Hi Kylie, this is probably an Iridomyrmex, but too hard to ID from this photo. Cheers, Jon

No problems. sometimes ants are just going too fast for a clear photo and too fast to whip out the macro lens.
