This gum tree looked like it had stripes up its trunk! When I looked closely it still looked like that was where the bark had dropped off not any kind of insect infestation. Is the stripes related to the species of the tree or does it mean something else?

those vertical stripes or cracks where sap seeps out is a sign of tree stress (usually) , sometimes lack of water , will be interesting to see if the tree remains healthy
