another insect dropped this and took off before I got a look at it. the insect it dropped was dead.

Possibly by a robber fly?
Can you look out for Keyacris scurra in you travels pleae. Found in native grassland. and grarssy box woodlands.

Thanks RogerF. Will do. Looked it up on the Canberra NatureMapr. Not see that species as yet but it does look a bit small for me. In grasshopper season though I tend to track down any I see to try for a photo. So maybe I'll get lucky!

Keyacris is a winter active species and is present most of the year but most sightings are in late spring and autumn. Slow moving and very easy to photograph but cryptic. Likes open kangaroo grass and everlasting daisy habitat.
