groundcover, very spreading, hard to count how many plants.

Plants survive on mud exposed by falling water levels for a while - die off quickly (desiccate) if its hot, or frosted.

yes, different forms when in a wetland, from when stranded. A few wetland plants are like that ( tricky) and Ludwigia is a good example.
