Eulamprus heatwolei (Yellow-bellied Water Skink)

Its body colour is brown with numerous black flecks along the back and a ragged-edged, broad, lateral band. Belly is pale cream to bright yellow and dorsolateral stripe extends from the eye to the front limbs. The front section of the ear-opening is black. Snout-vent length: 100 mm. This species is found along the Murray River and distributaries in Wodonga (e.g. House Creek) where it can be seen basking on rocks or logs near the water's edge. When disturbed it may dive into the water, emerging after a while to take up its position back on a rock. Several individuals may be seen basking in areas with suitable habitat.
